What are the advantages, maintenance and use of impact rammers? Answer your questions

Usually buyers have many questions after purchasing a tamping machine from abroad. Today I will answer your frequently asked questions and I hope you can ask more questions or contact us.

1F
Comparison between Tamping rammer and plate rammer? What are the advantages of impact rammer?

The plate rammer has a larger area, but for an impact rammer, the small area of the impact rammer makes its impact force more concentrated.

Rammers are better suited for clay soil and smaller areas. They compact the soil through impact. Plate compactors are best for gravel, sand or silt and larger areas and compact them with vibration.

Things to consider when choosing between a tamping machine and a plate compactor are the type of soil and the size of the job site. Plate compactors can compact soil deeper, but cannot compact granular soil.

If you are compacting, you need to consider the above factors and choosing the right tools can get twice the result with half the effort.

2F
Why does the impact rammer suddenly stop or get stuck?

  1. The engine is short of oil.

2. There is a problem with the crankshaft connecting rod

3. There is a problem with the clutch plate

4. Engine power output is abnormal

5. The protective cover is broken

6. Air filter clogged

7. The fuel valve and engine switch are not opened.

Consider the above factors.

3F
Why does the engine start but the rammer does not run?

At this time, we first need to check the clutch. The clutch plate speed is low and does not open, so increase the throttle.

The working principle of the impact rammer is that the engine rotates the clutch. When the clutch reaches a certain speed, the tamping hammer will engage and the gear will start, causing the tamping hammer to jump.

If the clutch is damaged, the clutch needs to be replaced in time. If that doesn't work, replace the connecting rod or crank gear.

4F
Why is the engine running but the impact rammer running unstable?

  1. 1.There is oil/grease on the clutch;

2. The spring is damaged;

3. The pressed block sticks to the soil;

4. Damage to the tamping system or crankcase components;

5. The engine running speed is too high.

Can sand be compacted with an impact rammer?

Like gravel, sand needs to be compacted; however, this can be a challenging task. Since sand is porous, moisture and water can easily get into it. Sand crumbles easily after compaction because it lacks bonding strength.

Before compacting sand, its moisture content should be assessed. If the voids in the sand are dry or filled with water, there won't be any force holding the particles together.

Vibratory forces can be applied to relatively moist sand to create configurations. The best way to compact sand is to mix it with other clayey soil or gravel.

6F
How to use impact rammer?

A manual impact rammer has a flat metal base (covered with a wood tamping plate) and a heavy bar, usually with two handles on each side.

Push down on the main pole or handle to compact the soil to form concrete. When using a hand tamper to compact the ground, you should lift it to waist height, take a step, and then lower the slab to the ground.

Apply as much power as possible, making sure each strike overlaps the last strike.
